The Internet worm (also dubbed "The Morris Worm" after it's alleged author, William T. Morris) was a worm that worked by searching for other (uninfected) computers on the Internet and then using several unknown bugs in programs running on those computers in order to transfer a copy of itself to the uninfected computer and start it running.

The Morris worm or Internet worm of November 2, , was one of the first computer worms distributed via the Internet, and the first to gain significant mainstream media attention. It also resulted in the first felony conviction in the US under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. It was written by a graduate student at Cornell University, Robert Tappan Morris, and launched on November 2, , .
