In early , Henry Cow returned to Virgin's Manor Studios to record their second album called Unrest. It is known that there were many tensions between the members while recording this album. From a certain point of view, that is detectable at times with the band breaking free from the aesthetic of their first offering/5.

  1. Track 1 to 8 originally released on LP in (Virgin V). Bonus tracks 9 & 10 are taken from raw material recorded at the UNREST sessions. They were mixed at Cold Storage Studios in All the sounds were made with the instruments listed above; however, in parts of Ruins and Linguaphonie, the bassoon, alto, voice and drums were recorded /5(2).

With UNREST, Henry Cow moved beyond the jazz-influenced sound of their first recording, LEG END, on to an album with two personalities - the composed pieces are definitely more `studied' in their compositions, and the improvisations feature a technique still evolving within the band, that of using the studio itself as an instrument of album opens with quite a catchy little number, /5(40).
